Aim

Milo’s Mission Rescue is a non-profit organisation whose aim is to offer foster and then rehoming to vulnerable and at risk dogs and cats.

 

Objectives

• To identify vulnerable and at risk dogs and cats (referred to as animals in the policy document) , of all ages who require foster and then re-homing 

• To place the animals in foster first, for assessment and to complete the vet process with each animal 

• To place the animal in a permanent home 

 

Retrieval of animals in risk

• Milo’s Mission will work alongside other rescues in the identification and retrieval of animals deemed to be at risk and in need of rehoming 

• Milo’s Mission may also identify animals at risk and in need of rehoming when advertised for free on websites 

• It is the policy of Milo’s Mission that no money will be spent in the retrieval of an animal except in extraordinary circumstances when an immediate risk to the animal was deemed likely 

• Milo’s Mission rescue will facilitate the private rehoming of dogs and cats if deemed necessary and again where no fee is necessary to secure the animal. In the case of a private rehoming a surrender declaration form will be completed by the person surrendering the animal. In this instance the dog or cat must physically move into the care of MMR before the rehoming process begins. The microchip must be transferred over to MMR at this stage.

• No dogs or cats will be advertised for rehoming on the social media accounts or Website operated by MMR unless they are in the care of the rescue. Milo’s Mission rescue cannot facilitate or advertise any other animals for rehoming unless in the care of the rescue. 

• Milo’s Mission will assist in the surrendering of animals in agreement with the person wishing to surrender.

Foster of animals

• All animals will be placed in foster care with Milo’s Mission before rehoming. All foster homes will have been home checked and deemed suitable for foster

• During the foster phase the animal will be assessed for suitable rehoming and vet work will be completed. All dogs and cats will be microchipped

• The animal will stay in foster care until a suitable permanent home has been found

• The foster will provide the rescue will feedback regarding the animal in their care.

 

Rehoming of animals

• All animals who are ready for rehoming will be advertised on the social media pages & website of Milo’s Mission Rescue.

• All potential adopters will complete an application form and have a successful home check before adopting.

• The adoption fee will be discussed with all applicants and must be paid before the animal is adopted.

• Any future necessary vet work including vaccinations will be discussed with applicants.

• A meet and greet will be arranged with the new family and animal.

• A plan will be made for the transfer of the animal to their new home.

• The microchip certificate of the animal will be transferred over to the new owner.

 

Post-rehoming

• Milo’s Mission rescue will offer support & guidance to the families of newly adopted animals for a period of time after adoption 

• If the new home placement breaks down within the first 6 months from the time of adoption Milo’s Mission Rescue will work with the family to rehome the animal again. Milo’s Mission Rescue will try to find foster space for the animal during this time but if no space is available it is the responsibility of the new owner to hold on to the animal. If a dog has been aggressive towards other dogs or people Milo’s Mission Rescue will not be able to rehome the dog.

• Milo’s Mission cannot guarantee the health of the adopted animal and therefore, it is the responsibility of the adopted owner to maintain regular veterinary care.

• Milo’s Mission Rescue cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs once they have left the care of the rescue. Adopters should be encouraged to seek advice from their vets if and when behavioral issues arise.

• If adopters wish to identify a vet practice of their choice they may do this after their vet visits, eg. completing the second vaccination.

Restricted Breeds

Milo’s Mission Rescue cannot offer care or rehoming services to adult dogs or crossbreeds thereof, currently on the restricted breed list. Rare exceptions may be made in the case of young puppies 9 up to 12 weeks old) but this will only be on an individual case by case basis. Such puppies will be fostered and rehomed in adult only households.

• American Pit Bull Terrier

• English Bull Terrier

• Staffordshire Bull Terrier

• Bull Mastiff

• Dobermann Pinscher

• Rottweiler

• German Shepherd (Alsatian)

• Rhodesian Ridgeback

• Japanese Akita

• Japanese Tosa

• Bandog

• Huskies

 

We can refer people on to other rescues who specialize in these breeds where appropriate.

In addition, purebred and crossbred Border Collie / Wicklow Collie and Belgian Malinois adult dogs and puppies will be fostered and rehomed in adult only homes.

GDPR statement

The personal data of applicants to Milo’s Mission Rescue is important and protecting it is a priority for Milo’s Mission Rescue. Accordingly, and in line with GDPR we will keep the data secure. 

Applicants sign an online form agreeing that their personal data will be stored by Milo’s Mission Rescue only for the re-homing purposes of the adopted animal.
